More Faire and Some Butterflies

During the week, I attended a class at the Huntington Library called "Shakespeare Garden Walk". I learned what a Shakespeare garden is, what it's for and why there were created. The lady in the picture below is the curator of the garden. More pictures are here.

I also stopped at the Los Angeles arboretum (it's on the way home) and walked around for a while. More pictures are here.

I didn't do anything that I planned on doing this weekend. Not a single thing. I had a great time, but it was all different than expected.

I was going to go to the Mojave Preserve on Saturday and climb Kelso sand dune (the 2nd highest dune in California at 800 feet). However, the weather report said there was going to be a lightning storm in that area, so I decided to do something different.

So I went to the Renaissance Faire for the second time so far this year. I spent the entire day, from 9:30 am to 5:30 pm, walking throughout the faire grounds. This time I concentrated on seeing as many shows as I could, and I watched about a dozen of them.

There are more pictures (over 1380 of them) here.

Sunday was supposed to be filled with a trip to Joshua tree to take part in a Desert Survival Course. However, after so much walking on Saturday, I didn't feel like doing another hike in the desert. Instead, I took the subway and a bus down to Exposition Park in Los Angeles and walked around for a few hours.

I spent some time in the butterfly Pavilion, in a huge tent filled with live butterflies. This was very relaxing. Pictures are here.

After that, I spent a couple of hours wandering around the incredible rose garden. Pictures are here.

Next week: On Saturday, I am probably going to try and climb Kelso Dune, if the weather permits. And on Sunday, it's back to the Renaissance Faire.
